About Love: Three Stories by Anton Chekhov

The three stories in this Chekov collection read less like stories, and more like listening to a dull coworker describe a story they read. The stories are dull. The sentence structure is tedious. Nothing interesting happens, and the lack of action is not balanced by dispensed wisdom. Without Seth's spot illustrations, this is a one-star collection.

The Short Stories of Anton Chekhov by Anton Chekhov

This is an excellent group of short stories, Chekhov's favorite form of writing. I love his stories almost without exception. He is easier to read than most of the other Classic Russian writers I have read. He was a Medical Doctor by trade, of which he was proud.. Hemingway called him an amateur writer which sounds like something he would say.

Chekhov was so thoroughly good I can't possibly speak a negative word. There is good stories and there is great stories and all these are great stories. Chekhov differed from many in that he has this fatalistic, almost sarcastic view of the human struggle. He makes you wonder if you've got your own life right or not.

The Beggar by Anton Chekhov - Goodreads

An alright short story about a beggar, with a nice twist at the end. It's about a beggar who managed to get up on his feet after an encounter with several people. It shows all the misconception, judgements and mistreatment of beggars. A lot of people seem to think that getting a job is always easy for everyone.
