The Great Gatsby movie review (2013) | Roger Ebert

May 08, 2013  · Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" isn't a disaster. Every frame is sincere. Its miscalculations come from a wish to avoid embalming a classic novel in "respectfulness" — a worthy goal, in theory. It boasts the third most imaginative use of 3D I've seen recently, after "U2 3D" and "Hugo." It's a technological and aesthetic lab that has four or five experiments cooking in each scene.

Amazon.com: Customer reviews: The Great Gatsby

And what a great read this was! I loved "The Great Gatsby" from the very first page. Written in the 1920'ies one would think that this novel would be outdated by now. But a book doesn't get the label "a great classic" for no good reason. Fitzgerald, with "The Great Gatsby", has written a novel with a timeless message.

Book Review: The Great Gatsby | Rodney M Bliss

Feb 18, 2021  · The Great Gatsby is a tragedy. It’s not quite Shakespearian in that not everyone dies in the end. But, enough die to put a somber ending on what to that point had been a morality tale. The book is 100 years old, but in case, like me, you don’t remember the story and decide to reread it, I’ll keep my review spoiler-free.

The Great Gatsby movie review (1974) | Roger Ebert

The Great Gatsby is a superficially beautiful hunk of a movie with nothing much in common with the spirit of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel. I wonder what Fitzgerald, whose prose was so graceful, so elegantly controlled, would have made of it: of the willingness to spend so much time and energy on exterior effect while never penetrating to the souls of the characters.
